November 17, 2000THE POWER RANKINGS have always been controversial. After all, how in the heck do we decide who is ranked where? Well, in this issue of the Power Rankings we are introducing a new element, the Power Ratings! How do the Power Ratings work you ask? Good question. When we figure it out, we'll let you know right away. BUT JUST TO give you something to chew on, we did take in consideration each team's on ice play to date and not just the count in the W column. You may have to read this issue completely before it's truly clear.

|
1. Thistles | 7. | 21.6 | Sitting pretty on top of the league early in NSHL9. They're playing great hockey both home and away. We like that. A lot.
2. Infantry | 10. | 19.2 | Almost marching in time with the Thistles, except we like more goals for and less goals against.
3. Crunch | 6. | 18.9 | A higher goals against count is starting to show in the loss column. We'd like it better if there was more concentration from the PK unit.
4. Muffs | 3. | 17.3 | A few more home wins would make a big difference here.
5. Psychosis | 2. | 17.0 | It will be interesting to see how recent lineup rules changes affect this until recently triple-shifting-dependent squad.
6. Foomanchu | 11. | 15.5 | What ever happened to home ice advantage? Special teams need some help too. We don't like that.
7. Stompers | 9. | 15.4 | Strong special teams are propping up this team. There should be more wins.
8. Eagles | 8. | 15.4 | A decent PIM average and balanced play are keeping the Eagles in this position.
9. Scorpions | 14. | 15.1 | Their second highest PIM average in the NSHL is tugging away at their mediocre success on special teams.
10. Clash | 18. | 14.9 | The Clash need to score more and sew their goalie's pads together.
11. Traders | 1. | 14.7 | A surprisingly poor start for our perenniel favourites.
12. Loudmouths | 4. | 14.2 | Too bad Noronen can't score goals.
13. Stranglers | 20. | 14.0 | The quintessential .500 hockey club. We don't like that.
14. Blazers | 19. | 13.9 | High PIMs and a mediocre PK unit is a dangerous duo that we don't like.
15. Thieves | 5. | 13.5 | Playing .500 hockey despite a decent set of special teams lines.
16. Riot | 12. | 12.0 | Special teams are pulling this team up higher than maybe it should be.
17. Spirit | 13. | 12.0 | Super low PIMs are impressive but fighting's not the only thing this team isn't doing.
18. Ice Terrors | 15. | 11.7 | Even with low PIMs and a top five PK and PP set up the Ice Terrors aren't performing.
19. Icerays | 17. | 11.2 | They are winning more games than they deserve right now.
20. Useless Twits | 23. | 9.5 | Only their low PIM average is keeping the Twits out of the NSHL basement.
21. Beagles | 24. | 9.4 | The highest PIM average in the NSHL means we don't like you.
22. SunDogs | 22. | 8.2 | A raft of changes has seen some improvement, but a lifeboat is probably what is necessary.
23. Blades | 16. | 7.8 | Their only bright light, albeit not red, is with the specialty teams. With the worst PIM average in the league we hoped that their PK unit would be even better.
24. Buzzards | 21. | 1.1 | First team to have over 100 GA this season. They are last in every Power Rating category except PIM.
