July 13, 1999 Re-rate Explanation =================== There seems to be some confusion about how this re-rate system works. Here it is, in a big nutshell... Each team is allowed to "hide" players from re-rating. The number of players a team can "hide" is determined by the final regular season standings of NSHL6. For the purposes of the re-rate, players are sent to their team's farm team, where nobody is affected by the re-rating panel. This is all done manually, according to each GM's instructions. There is nothing automatic about this process. As you may be aware, when you make a trade with HLS2, the traded players are automatically placed on their new teams' farm teams. THIS DOES NOT EXEMPT THEM FROM THE RE-RATE RULES! Think about a reverse situation, where you trade for a player that you WANT to re-rate. He ends up on your farm team. Does he stay there? No! The GM instructs me to move him to the PRO team for re-rating. The same goes for anybody you may acquire in the period of time between the season and the re-rate exercise. You have to instruct me on what to do with these players, just as you do with the other players still on your team. I realize there is some question as to what constitutes a legitimate farmer, and this is perhaps a bit of a loophole in this system. Unfortunately there is little I can do about this at this point. Frankly, I'm amazed it has taken almost 3 seasons for this to be discovered, and hopefully it won't get abused too much between now and Friday :-) I've made a unilateral decision to change the re-rate rules. I am of the VERY strong opinion that the current ones stink. We voted last year, and I received a lot of comments that we should try it one more year. Well, we have, and it has become a very large pain in the backside as we prepare for this one. I am in the process of reviewing some ideas, and am planning on publishing a whole new "NSHL Constitution" as soon as this re-rate is over with. You can then all look at it, and if lots of you are vehemently opposed to it, then I guess it will be back to the drawing board. I promise that the new system will be fair, however.
